Wev was quite relived that Valliance get off of him, especially before he drew his sword. Wev backed away, but not far enough that he could get a good look at Valliance's sword. It wasnt the old hand-me-down sword he was expecting. Though Wev hardly knew anything about swords, he could tell just by its looks that this was a good one.

Valliance looked stumped at Mahgin’s question. He gazed at his sword for a long moment. “I don’t actually know what it’s made of,” he replied, scratching his head. “My father made it for me. It’s a hybrid energy sword.” He seemed unaffected by the magic of Mahgin’s blade.

Nakion got over his initial amazement and now looked unimpressed. Their swords were tiny in comparison to his own blade, a wicked, red-tinted, gently-curved blade adequate for both blocking, stabbing, and slashing. It too was a hybrid energy sword, though anyone unfamiliar with Flareling technology would have been unable to tell this. He refrained from drawing his blade, deciding for the moment that he would be the one to bring a gun to a sword fight.

“What about your sword?” Valliance asked suddenly, looking at Vessyr.

Vessyr was about to answer when a wave of dread came over her, passing as quickly as it came.  She snapped to look at Shade, who was sitting on the ground staring straight ahead, his arms around his waist.  She shook it off, staring at the odd creature before her.  She hadn't really paid him much attention before, but she was pretty sure he had somehow caused the strange feeling, and something was wrong with him.  "Uh..." she mumbled, "is he ok?"

Shade had tried to get rid of the horrible aura coming from Mahgin's sword, but had only succeeded in relaying it to everyone else, even when he tried simply to ask her to get rid of it.  That was bad.  Very bad.  It was overpowering.  He couldn't block it out without blocking out everything else too, but he didn't see any other options.  He canceled out as much of his own telepathy as he could, which was not quite all of it, and focused on the grass on the ground in front of him.

Mahgin jumped a little and made a peep when she felt Shade's presence. She dropped her sword in the process. She glared at Shade contemptuously and said to Vessyr without looking at her. "He's probably fine." Mahgin picked up her sword and transformed it back into a broom, and then that broom vanished into thin air. She walked over to Shade and stared at him for a moment. She said starkly, "Hey buddy, you okay?"

Vessyr grumbled. They were supposed to be on their way to getting out of there, and instead they had stopped for a mute creature who seemed to be scared of everything. She crossed her arms and watched Mahgin try to talk to Shade.

Shade blinked once, looking up at Mahgin. She had said something, but he had no idea what. However, she had also put away her sword. Carefully, he dropped the barriers he had made and checked the area around him. Everything seemed to be back to normal. Oblivious to everything that had just been said, and still quite shaken, he asked Mahgin, 'what was that?'

"I'll take it that you didn't like my sword. 'The steel that hates.' That's what they call the material that makes up my blade. Empaths tend not to like it. I'm gonna guess you're an empath." Mahgin did what looked like a fake smile. "We should get going."

The owl flew down from the branches above the path and landed on Mahgin's head. "What," it chimed helpfully to Shade, indicating Mahgin with one wing.

Valliance looked a bit dismayed at having been ignored by Vessyr, but he shrugged it off as the group began walking again. He seemed lost in his own thoughts for awhile, so much so that he forgot to sheathe his sword.

Wev watch them all draw their swords. He never owned any weapons other than a tiny sonic blaster. It was pretty much a Vithian equivilant to a BB gun, being not much more than a toy. He used to imagine himself as a Vithian Legionnaire with a STSSPR, wreaking justice on (knocking over) the multitude of evil monsters (empty cans his mom threw out) in the blighted wildnerness of the southern mesas (his back yard). He chuckled to himself inaudibly. Those were good times. He snapped out of his daydream, and saw that the group was moving again. He trotted up to were Valliance was walking, but a few feet farther away then normal. 'Hey Valliance,' Wev noticed that he looked like his mind was elsewhere. He couldnt blame him, his was a moment ago. 'You might want to sheath that.' Wev said it as politely as he could, hoping he wouldnt make Valliance feel silly for not paying attention.

Shade nodded and stood up nervously.  He looked around for a moment, before following the rest of the group.  He stuck close to Wev and Valliance, and kept a close watch on the owl as it flew ahead of them.  It did seem to know where it was going.

After they had been walking for a while, Vessyr realized she hadn't actually shown Valliance her sword.  This wouldn't have bothered her very much, but she supposed there was little else to do while they walked.  "Valliance," she said, "you asked about my sword?"  She approached him, watching Nakion out of the corner of her eye, and held out her blade.  "It's a hybrid energy weapon," she explained, tilting it so that he could see the trigger at the end of the handle, "it doubles as a blaster, see?"

"Huh?" Valliance sputtered, breaking out of his reverie. He looked at Wev apologetically. "Oh yeah, hah..." Quickly he sheathed his sword. When Vessyr walked up to him some of the brightness came back into his eyes. "Oooh," he said, marveling at the sword's odd shape and texture. "Where did you get it?" He immediately decided that he wanted one. Maybe he could get one for his sister Avva too; she had trouble holding a sword and one that could shoot things would be doubly useful to her.

Nakion eyed the blade with a sideways glance, curious himself.

The group could smell Thukr again, although she was no where to be seen. Mahgin smelled her pits, and then made a foul expression. "Sweet mother of barbs, why do I suddenly smell like this?" She summoned a tiny purse and whipped out a tiny glowing bottle. Taking the cork off, she splashed little droplets of the liquid onto her face and down her shirt. It masked the smell slightly with the odor of vanilla and sugar, but the stench of Thukr returned after about a minute.

Vessyr shrugged. "I don't know," she answered, "it was my father's, and he never told me where he got it." She continued walking for a while, but eventually stopped when Mahgin did. She scrunched up her nose.

"I have no idea," she grumbled, "but you ought to figure it out, unless someone has a gasmask." Her tail twitched slightly, irritated, and she watched Mahgin with poorly hidden impatience.

Shade wasn't sure what everyone was so upset about. Apparently something smelled bad, but he didn't have a very good sense of smell, and didn't really pay enough attention to know which smells were supposed to be bad. But, now that he thought about it, something did smell odd. He stopped a short ways away from the group, and watched them.

Valliance didn't like the smell coming off of Mahgin either, so he pulled his shirt over the bottom of his face, creating a makeshift mask. With his ears folded back and fur pushed down by the shirt, he looked rather silly.

"What," chirped the owl distastefully, fluttering away from Mahgin. It landed not too far off, swiveling its head around excitedly. "What what!" it called, pointing with one wing. It seemed to be indicating a side path off from the main route. This path was smaller than the one the party was currently travelling, and the vegetation was creeping in at all sides. It looked a bit eerie, the light from the sun overhead barely piercing the thick canopy.

The Vith don't have a good sense of smell by any means, but Wev did notice a slightly unpleasant tinge in the air. He scrunched his nose and looked around, seeing the rest of the group covering their noses and looking generally uncomfortable and decided he was quite happy for his undeveloped sense of smell.

As Mahgin walked under the shade caused by such heavy vegetation on this new path, the smell of Thukr seemed to disappear altogether. It was as if the rays of sunlight caused the distinct odor, and as it disappeared, she felt her naturally glossy skin tighten, which began to worry her. Tending to the itchy spot on the back of her neck with careful fingernails left pale green crust on her fingers. Mahgin squinted at it. Some other force was reacting with the little girl that she was, but it wasn't apparent what it was, at least to her.

A glitchy screen appeared in front of Mahgin, as she looked through her oracle device. She said quietly to Sulfr, the AI, "Could you scan this stuff and maybe see what it is?"

Sulfr asked in response, "I'm sorry, I didn't quite get that. Could you repeat what you said please?"

Mahgin glared at the screen, unhappy. "Sulfr, scan this."

Sulfr malfunctioned a bit and then said, "Okay, I'll access your photo library."

Mahgin did a sigh, rather annoyed. "No! Just... Nevermind, Sulfr. Goodbye." She pressed a button on the holographic screen, causing it to fade away.

"We're going in there?" Valliance asked, nervousness tinging his voice. "It looks kind of creepy."

Nakion, although he would never admit such a thing, actually agreed with the kid's sentiments. He was out of his element here, cold, and surrounded by green stuff that was completely alien to him. And now the weird feathered thing wished them to press down a path choked by it. Nakion decided not to dwell on such matters and shouldered past everyone, following Mahgin down the path.

As soon as Nakion stepped onto the new path, an eerie silence overtook him. It was as if the plants themselves formed a barrier between the forest's natural sounds and anyone on the path. Nakion found he preferred the silence to the alien noises.

Vessyr's ears pinned back against her head as she started down the new path.  It was too quiet, and seemed to be closing in on her.  She held her blade at the ready, checking around her as they went.

Shade, on the other hand, was not bothered at all.  The only thing that concerned him was how worried everyone else seemed.  The forest itself seemed only slightly different from the rest of the woods, to him.  The animals were all still there, and Shade was perfectly used to birds not wanting to draw his attention.
